Juror’s Statement

While viewing the photographs submitted for the Poetic Images: Still Life as Subject exhibition, I was thrilled to see so very many elegant, thoughtful images. Throughout the history of art, the still life has given us insight into the significance of the things we hold dear to our hearts. The photographs I chose were those that touched my heart. I salute all those who submitted images for this exhibition. It was a privilege to have the opportunity to view your work.

Call for Entries

From the earliest days of photography, objects have been subjects for the camera. When seen through the lens, familiar things can take on an aura of the poetic, acting as metaphors or becoming stand-ins for ideas a large as life, death, and love.

For this exhibition, noted still-life photographer Sue Lezon selected forty photos for exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery and an additional thirty-five photos for the gallery's "On-Line Annex." All selected work will be included in a full-color exhibition catalog available for purchase. To help artists defray costs, PhotoPlace Gallery offers to mat and frame work selected for exhibition free of charge, providing artists print their images to our pre-cut mat and frame sizes.
